James Spader phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to talk about his new hit show on NBC, The Blacklist.
After the premiere received rave reviews and scored over 12 million viewers, James jokes the success is starting to negatively impact the show — well, in the best way possible.
“They picked a great location for us to shoot at in Manhattan,” the actor explains. “We happen to be in this location where there are a lot of tour buses … literally, every 10 to 15 minutes they’d have to cut because somewhere in the back … there would be a big tour bus with a picture of The Blacklist.”
On the show, James plays Red, one of the FBI’s most wanted who turns himself in to help the FBI track down criminals. However he insists on only speaking with a rookie named Elizabeth Keen.
And fans are already speculating on why that’s the case. When asked if Elizabeth will prove to be Red’s daughter, James admits: “I think that will prove to be too simple.”
However, he adds: “But I suppose that’s a question that should remain I think … One of the things that’s great about the show is how the weekly episodes are sort of autonomous and can stand alone and yet there is this constant thread running through them of the greater story of the relationships between all the characters.”
And we’re sure we will only have more questions once the season gets going. Catch The Blacklist on NBC on Mondays 10/9c.
