Ellen DeGeneres phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to talk about the 11th season of her hit talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
The funny woman admits that initially she had no idea she’d even score her own talk show, let alone enjoy 11 seasons of it!
“First of all, it took forever for anyone to even buy it … the station managers in different markets didn’t think I would work. They didn’t think people watching TV during the day would relate to me … so just getting it on the air was something.”
Ellen adds: “But I had seen a psychic three years before who told me I was going to start a brand new career when I was 45 and it was going to go 20 years if I wanted it to, and I didn’t even have a talk show in my head! I was thinking, ‘What sitcom goes 20 years?’…I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d do anything for 11 years.”
And along with hosting her own show everyday, the blonde is also set to host the 86th Academy Awards next March, making it Ellen’s second time to host the awards ceremony.
Ellen admits, at first, she wasn’t too keen on the idea. “I hosted in 2007 and it went well and it was great, [but] I thought I’d never do it again,” she reveals. “I thought, ‘Why would I push it?’ So ever year someone said, ‘If they ask you?’ And I did say, ‘No’ right away when they called.”
So what made her change her mind? “I just thought about it and as an artist it’s important … to push yourself and my show is doing really well … and I just wanted to do something scary and that’s about the scariest thing you can do is host the Oscars.”
