Bethenny Frankel phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to chat about her upcoming talk show Bethenny and latest book Skinnygirl Solutions.
The New York Times best-selling author’s fifth book is a guide to having it all without getting overwhelmed in true Bethenny no-nonsense fashion. Skinnygirl Solutions offers advice from everything about relationships to establishing your career, mommyhood, and even her top ten tips to being naturally thin.
One that caught our eye is understanding the difference between your “food voice” and your “food noise.”
What does that mean? Bethenny explains: ”Women are very emotional about food and exercise, like, ‘I was bad because I ate. I was bad because I didn’t exercise … and that’s all kind of beating yourself up. Food noise would say, ‘Oh my god. I hate myself. I just ate chips and salsa, so now I’m going to ruin myself and binge all day.’”
Where as, Bethenny continues, “A food voice would say, ‘You know what? I really wanted chips and salsa or guacamole and so maybe at lunch I’ll have a salad instead of beating myself up.’ It’s kind of having a conversation with yourself and having a good relationship with food rather than having a it be a bad relationship with food, which many people have.”
The former reality star promises, “If you’re not emotional about food, you will not be overweight.”
And speaking of emotions, the talk show host is dealing with her own when it comes to her divorce from Jason Hoppy. So how does the mom of 3-year-old Bryn keep it together while juggling it all?
“It’s not easy and I think that actually in two ways it’s why it’s all happening,” Bethenny admits. “I’m so blessed and so fortunate and have my own talk show, so it kind of balances me because I’m going through a terrible time and then I’ll be able to say to myself, ‘Look how lucky I am. Look how blessed I am. And you know what? Let me just be in this moment.’”
“Everybody has got their stuff at different times … and it all balances out. I’m going through this to experience it with other people and you later find out why you went through something difficult and negative, but you have to just be in it and go through it instead of avoiding it and complaining and just be grateful and in this moment.”
